For 10 days during April and 14 days during October 2019, Extinction Rebellion (XR) shut down central London through a series of civil disobedience actions. Sites included Oxford Circus, Parliament Square and Waterloo Bridge and Trafalgar Square. XR's peaceful protests aimed to draw attention to the climate crisis and make the government respond to their three key demands;
'Government must tell the truth by declaring a climate and ecological emergency, working with other institutions to communicate the urgency for change.
Government must act now to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025.
Government must create and be led by the decisions of a Citizen's Assembly on climate and ecological justice.'
