EXTINCTION REBELLION
LONDON, 2019
In 2019 Extinction Rebellion shut down Central London over a period of 10 days in April and a further 14 days in October, deploying a series of civil disobedience actions throughout busy sites including Oxford Circus, Parliament Square, Waterloo Bridge and Trafalgar Square.
The group's peaceful protests aimed to draw attention to the climate crisis and push the government to respond
to their three key demands:
"1. Government must tell the truth by declaring a climate
and ecological emergency, working with other institutions
to communicate the urgency for change.
2. Government must act now to halt biodiversity loss
and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025.
3. Government must create and be led by the decisions
of a Citizen's Assembly on climate and ecological justice."
